Scala Days conference
This year the Scala Days conference will be held in Lausanne, 11-13 June, at the SwissTech Convention Center. It’s the first time the conference is coming back to Switzerland after having started here in 2010.

C4DT-CMTA Joint Conference
This joint CMTA – C4DT conference will be held on the 6th of June 2019 at EPFL’s SwissTech Convention Center from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m, following on from the EPFL School of Computer and Communication Sciences’ Research Day. Speakers and panelists at the conference will discuss the first experiences made in Switzerland with the tokenization of securities and the professional custody of digital assets, as well as the future shape of trading platforms for digital assets.
Explaining AI for Everyone : Promises and Challenges of the Black Box Approach
Citizens have a right to an explanation of the decisions affecting them. However, if AIs are to be used in decision procedures, how can we explain complex AI systems to the general public, while so many computer scientists find them inscrutably opaque? In this presentation, an optimistic approach to this seemingly hopeless question will be presented.
Funding Multilateral Projects in Cybersecurity / Digital Trust
This workshop will be held on the 20th of May 2019 the the EPFL and aims to inform researchers and industrial partners, active in the field of cybersecurity / digital trust, about current opportunities to fund multilateral projects (collaborative projects involving multiple research and industry partners) using H2020 as well as other Swiss and EU sources of financing.

Swiss Symposium on Blockchain Research
The UZH Blockchain Center is organising a Swiss-wide Symposium on Blockchain Research to take place on the 14.05.2019 in Zürich. In such an event, two principles are fundamental: (1) Academic, interdisciplinary programme; (2) Federal coverage. It is just fair (and interesting) to learn what Universities of this country are doing in the area now. This allows to form a sense of community, find possible synergies and plainly learn. Ethical dilemmas in strategical and operational cybersecurity at State level
This conference will take place at the University of Lausanne on May 13th & 14th in the context of the CANVAS EU project. Many international experts will give presentations, in particular governmental CERT representatives. Participation is free of charge but registration is mandatory as the number of places is limited to 90 participants.
C4DT Workshop on Digital Identity

Rethinking General-Purpose Decentralized Computing
While showing great promise, smart contracts are difficult to program correctly, as they need a deep understanding of cryptography and distributed algorithms, and offer limited functionality, as they have to be deterministic and cannot operate on secret data. In this talk, Ceyhun Alp presents Protean, a general-purpose decentralized computing platform that addresses these limitations.
